Changing Leads for Kids Equine Assisted Counseling program is based on the research done in 2006 by Dr. Kay Trotter at the University of North Texas. The results of this study indicated that equine assisted group counseling is an effective mental health treatment for decreasing negative social behaviors,while also increasing positive social behaviors with at-risk children and adolescents. Furthermore, the results suggested that equine assisted counseling can be more effective curriculum group guidance counseling for several behavioral areas.
